'Making-with' Non-human Others is a project developed from the previous project, In the Process of Knitting a Netting. It is aimed at magnifying the idea of moving away from human-centric approaches, which is to "use" materials to make art. Instead, NaoKo is taking a different approach—'making 'with’ them. This project is ongoing. Please check back for further development.
The first collaboration is With the Wind. NaoKo created a structure that makes marks with charcoal or graphite on acid-free paper, negotiating with the wind and the artist’s urge to control the result.
The second is With the Sun and Plants. The images are coming soon.

NaoKo received an invitation to perform a brief set at the Copy Press book launch of Here from There by Vit Hopley and Yve Lomax in May 2024. In response to the book and the wind project she was doing, she composed a score for two voices entitled In The Middle of the Wind. This score was also performed by fellow artists, Rowena Hughes and Alexandra Kera for Alexandra’s book launch in Athens, Greece in summer 2024.
