About
Performative in its origin, NaoKo TakaHashi’s wide-ranging practice incorporates installation, performance, text, moving images, sound, drawing, spoken word, and sculpture. Her interest and approaches are focused on making artwork 'with' the others, including non-humans, to consider every aspect of creating artwok is a collaboration with the others.
NaoKo’s works have been included in various exhibitions at both major and not so known venues at a variety of cities locally and internationally. She has undertaken several commission works and artist-in-residency-programmes with Avatar in Quebec, Canada, Alma’mal Foundation of Contemporary Art in Jerusalem, Sharjah Museum in Sharjah, UAE and a three-year project with La’partement 22 in Rabat, Morocco to name a few. Her contributions to publications are from chapbook to an anthology book on non-Western artists by publishers based in London, Germany and USA. She gained her BA at Chelsea Collage of Arts and MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art. She is undertaking a (part-time) practice driven PhD research on spoken word within fine art at Leeds Beckett University, UK, hoping to become Dr. NaoKo(!!!), hopefully in 2025. She is currently based in North East of England (Co. Durham).
NaoKo's co-curated exhibitions are: Shaken from the Sky (2014), Beyond the Pale Yellow Amusement Park (2008), Art/X/Toyama (2002 & 2006). Movement Reality (2016-2019) was a project she worked with health professionals and people with neurological conditions. Together with Alex Baker, Alexander Costello and Dr. Kit Poulson, she has been organising experimental events culminating in group shows since 2018.
